Workers of the Electricity of Company are threatening a nationwide blackout on Friday, as part of their protest against the intended privatization of the power distribution company.

The workers who have begun a daily 3 hour protest at the various ECG offices across the country, are resolute not to allow government to give out the company on a 25 year concession in fulfilment of the condition precedent accessing about $500 million from the US Millennium Challenge Corporation.

Speaking to the media, Lambert Atsivor on day one of their protest, the Volta regional chairman of the ECG Senior Staff Association, Stephen Norvixoxo said the workers have resolved to plunge the entire country into blackout on Friday, should the government go ahead to launch the intended concession policy on Thursday.

According him, the outage is to get the general public support in sending a strong signal to government against planned concession, which he said will be detrimental to the ordinary electricity consumer.
