Former President and founder of the New Democratic Congress, Jerry John Rawlings has called on the members of the party to avoid the temptation of fighting the New Patriotic Party on “their own terms”
Mr. Rawlings said it would be inimical to the party’s fortunes if they “underestimate” the NPP.
“They have been in existence up to this time and they have not changed who they are.”
The former president who spoke at the NDC’s campaign launch on Sunday August 14, 2016 told the crowd it would be unwise for the party to “mimic”the NPP when they wish to compete against them and win, stating it is impossible to beat the likes in the Dankwa Busia tradition to their game.
“The nature of who they are what they are, where they come from is something they are happy with and they will be there for a long time.
“The calculation I want to put before you is that by virtue of who they are will necessarily give rise to what you and I have in the NDC. We cannot afford to fight them on their terms” he told the over 20,000 people gathered at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
“Let’s not mimic their behavior,” he warned. “Let us reach into the principles and values that we came about with, let’s have a clean clear elections”.
